Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
